Martha Bianco

Obituary of Martha E. Bianco

Martha E. Bianco, age 93, of North Bellmore, NY passed on March 16, 2017. Devoted wife of the late Germain J. Bianco, Martha is survived by her sons Charles, Gerard and John, daughters in law Laura and Patty, and grandchildren Gerard, Andrea, Angela and Lisa. Martha was born in Brooklyn, NY, the eldest--and last survivor--of 7 children. During the Great Depression, Martha was required to care for her younger siblings due to family difficulties. At age 17 she left her home and became very self-dependent. Martha served in World War II in the Women’s Army Corp (WAC) and worked as a cryptographer, decoding enemy messages, which was highly confidential. She then lived and worked in Boston, Manhattan, New Mexico and Eastern Long Island, where Martha was among the first women to receive a Veterans Mortgage, enabling her to buy her own home. Martha was a lover of music, from Opera, Classical, Swing, Doo-Wop and Rock and Roll, and even attended Rock Concerts into her 80s. Martha collected countless records, tapes, CDs and downloads. Her favorite artists were Nelson Eddy, Frank Sinatra, Richard Harris, Nick Lowe, Celtic Thunder, Pavoratti and John Fogerty. Martha was an accomplished singer, singing on the Radio with an Army Band, and was offered a professional career, but preferred to have a private life Martha married Germain, also born in Brooklyn, in 1955 and raised 3 children, including a special needs son. Martha was an active and proud gardener most of her adult life. After Germain's passing, Martha--in her 70s--taught herself how to use PCs, and spent many hours communicating with people all over the world, and used the Web to locate her long lost brother Harry in California, whom she had not seen in nearly 50 years. Martha was a very loving and supportive daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother, and opened her heart and doors to anyone in need. Those who were fortunate enough to know her, loved and admired her. Martha E Bianco is already missed greatly. Calling hours are Tuesday, March 21 and Wednesday March 22 from 2-4PM and 7-9:30PM. Mass to be held on Thursday, March 23 at 10:45 at St. Barnabas R.C. Church, Bellmore. Burial to follow at Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury.
