Edward Irving

Obituary of Edward M. Irving

On June 22, 2017 Mickey Irving, my beloved husband of 42 years joined his parents Helen and Eddie in heaven with God. Let me tell you just a little about the amazing man. He was not only my loving husband but my best friend, my life partner, the man I shared all life's up and downs as well as our dreams. He was the father to 3 of the greatest kids in the world- Michael, Kelly, and Rebecca. He was so proud of each of them and loved spending time with them. Mickey was my rock, my everything. The yin to my yang. Mickey was simply a gentle giant. He was a kind, generous and patient man. He saw all the beauty in nature and all gods' creatures. He would not kill a spider but capture it and put it outside to live. His faith was very important to him! He served proudly in the US army as a MP. 50+ years ago he joined the Bellmore Fire Department to help others. The men and women of the Bellmore Fire Department were an important part of his life. Safety was always a big deal to Mick. Recently he started attending meetings about safety hosted at firehouses. He also did research on his own. He wanted no one to get hurt while handling a call. You see he was part of the Bellmore Fire Department "FAMILY". He believed in community service. He was a coach, a Boy Scout leader and yes, a Girl Scout leader too. He did not want the troop to fold as no one stepped up to be a leader. Mickey was a Green Bay Packers and New York Yankees fan. He loved Charles Schultz's "Snoopy" He had a large snoopy collection thanks to Jim Costello, his grandchildren and other family members. Mickey enjoyed traveling, walks in the park, going to the beach and hanging out with the family. He liked watching old movies, history and music. His favorite hobby, hands down, was photography. He loved taking pictures especially of the grand children. We have so many great pictures, thousands to be exact! Mick's greatest joy was our family, not family but "FAMILY". He was very close to his sister Kay Mary and her husband Jim and their daughter Shannon. It was a special bond that they shared. Shannon was like another daughter to him. He was also close to my brother Billy and his wife Sue. It was always a good time to be had when we all got together! Lots of laughs! Our son Michal and his wife, our other daughter, Tara blessed us with two grandchildren, Sean and Keara. Mick loved attending their hockey and soccer games and dance recitals. Keara is also our artist in the family. He also enjoyed fishing with the when they were younger. Our daughter Kelly and her husband Rich also blessed us with two grandchildren, Lucas and Liam. Mick liked taking Lucas to school and his soccer games. They played dinosaurs and chased each other. Liam's smile is a ray of sunshine and liked to get into things when his Pop Pop wasn't looking. Our daughter Rebecca and her husband Tommy blessed us with our granddaughter Kaylee. Kaylee always asked for her Pop Pop to take her to the park and for munchies (munchkins to everyone else). Mickey always felt blessed every single time he was with those grand children. He never took that honor for granted. Their smiles and giggles kept him going strong! As you may have noticed we do not have any "in laws". That word is not in our vocabulary we are "FAMILY". This "FAMILY" was Mickey's pride and joy. It's hard right now how to put in words how special this man was to us. I hope I got a little bit of this across to you. Mickey was our gentle giant. I don't know how I am going to get along without him. Till the 12th of never B?. I love you!
