Obituary of Jane Hunte

29 May 2018:

Jane E Hunte, who turned 86 on 20 May, mother of Steven, Linda, and Bob Hunte is resting in peace  after passing away on 28 May 2018 after a short  illness.  Jane was the daughter of Francis Gerald Toye  and Margret (Russell) Jones and raised with her brother and  sister, Robert and June Toye, by her father Gerry Toye and  Anna F. Toye, in Washington, DC, where her father was an  attorney for General Electric.

After high school graduation, she followed her Aunt Georgine to Syracuse University in 1950  where she met her future husband, Kenneth Hunte, where he  was a graduate student working the registration  tables.  After a couple of years of dating, Ken and  Jane married on Long Island where Ken was phys. ed. teacher  and wrestling/soccer coach at Mepham High School in Bellmore  and a Jones Beach lifeguard.  Jane raised their three  children, Steven, Linda, and Bob in the small Cape Cod house  on Grand Avenue in Bellmore.  She was well known in the  wrestling and lifeguard communities and her children grew up  at Jones Beach and out on the boat.

Kenny Hunte passed away in 1986 and in 1987, Jane met Frank Russell who also was a teacher  /lifeguard and they became inseparable.  Frank provided  Mom with another 20 years of love, adventure, working out at  the Freeport Recreation, Frank’s loving family, travel,  and happiness.

Jane moved to the Atria Senior Residence in Lynbrook, NY in 2014.  She was an avid  reader, great letter writer, enjoyed crafts, loved the  beach, her family, children, neighbors and friends.

Jane is survived by her children: Steven, Linda, and Bob Hunte and Bob's wife Marybeth; grandchildren, Ian and Daniel  Hunte; Jane’s step-children: Laura Sams, David, and Debbie  Russell and her grandchildren Dylan and Hannah Sams, and  Sophia Russell;  her sister, June Wood, cousin  Ann, nephews, Gary and Glenn Watts, Mike Toye and their  families; as well as by her extended family of neighbors,  friends within the lifeguard and wrestling communities that  she loved so much.

So much has happened in such a short time, Steve, Linda and Bob will receive condolences and memories at Bartholomew Funeral Home on Thursday May 31st from 5-8 PM.  Additionally  a memorial service is planned for a later  time.  The family asks that you consider donating to  your favorite charity in memory of Jane E Hunte.
