Obituary of Laura Cuozzo

Sadly, we mourn the passing of our loving, beautiful mother and nonna, Laura Cuozzo. She passed away unexpectedly on April 28, 2020, after a brief hospital stay due to heart failure. Laura was born to Giuseppe and Clara Bassi, February 16, 1934, in the small village of Pietravairano, Provence of Caserta, Italy. She was raised with three sisters, Iolanda, Vanda, and Marisa Luisa. The family moved to nearby Naples during WWII. They later restored the family palazzo in Pietravairano, and our families continue to visit and enjoy the palazzo’s rich history. Laura was a preschool teacher in Naples. She married the love of her life, Michael Cuozzo in 1956. They lived in Naples for several years before immigrating to the United States in 1961 with their two young children, and settled in the town of Bellmore, NY. Laura was a dedicated wife, mother and nonna. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as nonna and enjoyed teaching her grandchildren the Italian culture. Like her children, they all learned how to make fresh gnocchi, ravioli, lasagna and her specialty, struffoli. Laura enjoyed spending time with her friends at the senior center, traveling, dancing, relaxing at the beach and cooking delicious meals. She had a beautiful spirit and made friends wherever she went. She was very well loved and touched the lives of many. Laura is survived by: Her children: Alex Cuozzo (Marianne), Clara Foy-Girts (Dave) and Mary Lou Neamonitis (George). Her grandchildren: Nicholas, James, Marisa, Phil and Leonardo. Her sister, Iolanda Cestari, her niece Gisella (Salvatore) and nephew Riccardo (Franca). Laura will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts. A memorial service to honor and celebrate her wonderful life will be scheduled at a later date.
