Obituary of Gregory P. McCarthy

Gregory (Greg) P. McCarthy, 67, Born September 29, 1953 in Astoria, Queens, New York, Died on October 13, 2020. Beloved Husband of Catherine McCarthy, for 44 years. Devoted Father of Tim (Tara), Trevor and Ryan (Ryan). Cherished PaPa of 5 grandchildren, Jenna, Keira, Ava, Angelina and Braden. Greg was a kind, considerate and loving man who spent so much time with the family. There have been so many good times with him at home, during the holidays, and abroad on vacation. As a NYC Dept of Sanitation worker, the guys used to call him Mac, and he would bring home “treasures” he would find along his route. PaPa was a gentle giant. Loud, but gentle. If it was his trademark “Fa! La! La! La! La!” or his “Hardy! Har! Har!”, it was sure to be heard throughout the whole house. He loved his backyard. He literally would spend every day out there and he’d tell anyone leaving the house the day's weather report and “be careful out there" as he sat in his designated seat at the outside table. Greg loved to grill and cook. Every Sunday, the house smelled amazing with a roast in the oven and of course fresh mashed potatoes. “The trick with the mashed potato is warming the milk before adding it” he used to say. And at the end of the meal, the Baileys would come out as a night cap. He loved sharing his time with his family and always had stories to tell. His laugh was contagious. He will be terribly missed.
