Obituary of Elsa Casilda Bruno Davitt

Elsa Casilda Bruno Davitt, longtime resident of Bellmore, NY on August 3, 2023. 94 years lived and loved. Beloved wife of the late Michael Joseph Davitt, Jr. Devoted mother to her 2 daughters, Michelle Davitt, MD and Geraldine Wilkins, RN, MSN. Loving aunt and tia. Elsa was born in Casilda, Provincia Santa Fe, Argentina to Casildo and Catalina (Dogliani) Bruno. She earned both a normal teaching degree and nursing degree. Professionally, she worked for Standard Oil Company in Argentina who sponsored her travel to New York City. Elsa began working at Beekman Downtown Hospital and it was there that she met her future husband. After moving her young family to Long Island, Elsa worked in the emergency department at Meadowbrook Hospital (now NUMC). Elsa served as head nurse of the emergency department at Nassau County Medical Center (NCMC) for over a decade. After leaving that position, she went on to become the first Patient Advocate at NCMC; followed by a position in the Patient Education Department. After retirement she was never idle: always sewing, crafting, shopping or traveling back to her homeland. She is predeceased by her son- in- law, Peter Wilkins and 5 siblings. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 11:15am at St. Barnabas R.C. Church in Bellmore.
