Marie Artinian

Obituary of Marie Ann Artinian

Marie Ann Artinian (nee Auricchio) went home to the Lord after a long battle with COPD and congestive heart failure on February 16, 2018. Marie had turned 73 in January.

Marie is survived by her husband, Zareh, who lovingly tended to her after her health declined, her loving children Zareh (Jr.) and Lorraine and son-in-law Paul Streib, the source of her pride and joy — her grandchildren Judy, Andrew, Joey, and Daniel, and her beloved siblings — sister Sr. Stella Auricchio and her brothers John and Louis Auricchio.

Marie was born on January 23, 1945 at 6PM, or as she liked to point out: 123456, in South Ozone Park, New York, to John and Louise Auricchio. She graduated from The Mary Lewis Academy in 1963. In 1964, she met Zareh Artinian thanks to the love of sandwiches that he shared with his classmate, Marie’s brother John, who introduced the two. After marrying, the couple moved to Rosedale, Queens, where they raised their family and became a member of St. Claire’s parish. Marie made sure that her home was filled with the sounds of joy, laughter, and music. Her children inherited her inclination for infectious laughter that would not stop until one lost their breath and tears streamed down one’s face.

After her children were grown, Marie worked as a secretary for the Mercy Home for Boys, a residential group home for boys with severe autism. Always caring for other people, she interacted with the boys and helped them in ways that went beyond her responsibilities as a secretary.

Marie enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, where her preferred pastime was the slots. But her greatest joy later in life was to see the fine, young people her grandchildren were becoming as they blossomed and demonstrated their unique God-given talents.

Her family deeply appreciates the expressions of concern, care, and love they have received from friends and relatives. Marie lived a blessed life and the effect she had on the people she met can be witnessed by their ongoing demonstration of love and appreciation.

The wake will be held on Sunday, February 18, from 2:00 – 4:00pm and at 7:00 – 9:30pm at the Clair S. Bartholomew and Son Funeral Home located at 302 Bedford Ave, Bellmore, NY 11710. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 19 at 10:45am at the St. Barnabas Church located at 2320 Bedford Ave, Bellmore, NY 11710.
