John Caffera

Obituary of John Joseph Caffera

John Caffera, 97, resident of Apex, North Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. The eldest son of Emma and John, brother of Joseph and Edward. He served as a distinguished Navy veteran during WWII. “Jack” served in the Pacific as a signalman, notably at Okinawa and Iwo Jima. He left high school and rushed, along with lifelong friend Raymond to join at 17. John settled in Bethpage, NY, where he lived over 50 years. His love for family and friends was unparalleled. Beyond the military, John's life was a tapestry of diverse accomplishments. From his days growing up in Brooklyn, to being a Radio DJ in North Carolina, then owning a bar and grill, to a successful car salesman. He was also an airline ticket agent in Idlewild ( now Kennedy Airport) handling many of the famous celebrities he enjoyed during his whole life. A walking encyclopedia on motion pictures in the 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond. John's love for life extended beyond his professional endeavors. He cherished moments in the water, as he loved to swim, and up to the week before his passing. A man of simple pleasures, he couldn't resist the allure of a good slice of pizza, a NY bagel or a sweet treat shared with his great-granddaughters he visited multiple times a week. In 2014, he bid farewell to his beloved wife, Ann Caffera. Together, they raised two children, Linda and Robert, and their family expanded to include grandchildren Sabrina and Rory, as well as great-grandchildren Emilia and Eliza. Today, we remember John Caffera as a Navy veteran, a multifaceted individual, and above all, a loving patriarch. His legacy continues through the generations he touched. May he rest in peace.
