Lawrence A. Gray 1941-2024 Lawrence, 82 passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 with his family by his side. He was the husband of Joan. The two recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. Larry was born in NYC to his late parents, Robert and Margaret. He spent his youth running around Douglaston, Queens, along with his late older brother, Michael and two younger sisters, Marjorie and Patricia. Larry’s childhood stories of sports, friends, and his large extended family were filled with colorful adventures. Larry graduated from St. Helena's High School in the Bronx and Murray State University in Kentucky where he received his Bachelor’s and Master's degree in Education. As a sports enthusiast Larry worked for the Mets for over 50 years, the US Open, and at Nassau Coliseum. For over 30 years Larry thoroughly enjoyed his job as an Athletic Director, Teacher, and Coach, for the East Meadow School District. His Woodland colleagues have been dear friends for the last 55 years. He was a very active person, during his life, Larry was an athlete and an outdoorsman. He participated and finished the NYC and LI marathons, played in golf tournaments, and enjoyed swimming, fishing, camping, gardening, and so much more. Larry met Joan while skiing and continued to enjoy this sport with his daughter, Cathy, and son, Peter, on their annual Vermont vacation. His zest for life carried over to his son in-law, Billy, grandchildren Wil, Aubrey and Erin, and his many nieces and nephews. Larry was a very outgoing and charismatic person that along with his signature handlebar mustache was easy to remember. He enjoyed traveling and saw most of North America, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand while visiting friends and family. His caring personality enabled him to be loved, befriended, and respected. What he loved most of all was being with his loved ones, his dear family, and friends. In leu of flowers, donations can be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, Wilmington NC https://lifecare.org/donate/
