Obituary of Joseph Francis Dugan

Joseph F. Dugan of Wantagh NY passed away peacefully at home on September 7, 2015 at the age of 89. Beloved husband of the late Kathleen (nee McNamara). Survived by his dear sister Mary Dugan of Staten Island NY. Loving and devoted father of Patricia Kearl (Kenneth), Kathryn Austin (James), Nancy Dugan, Joseph Dugan, and Susan Leninger (Michael). Adoring grandfather of Christopher Austin (Lesley), Brian Austin, Kathleen Leninger and Maureen Leninger. Cherished great-grandfather of Ella Grace and James Paul Austin. Survived by many treasured nieces, nephews and friends. Joseph was born February 11, 1926 in Flatbush, Brooklyn. He moved to Bellmore in 1930. In 1941 he moved to Staten Island where he attended Curtis High School. After graduation in 1943, Joseph joined the Navy and served aboard the cruiser USS Indianapolis, seeing action in the Pacific Ocean theater. At the end of the war he returned to Staten Island and in 1953 married his best friend, the love of his life, Kathleen. They later moved to Wantagh to raise their family. Joseph joined the NYPD serving most of his career as a detective in the 10th Precinct on the West Side of Manhattan. After twenty years of dedicated service, Joseph retired from the police department. He then pursued a second career as a bond trader on Wall Street achieving the title of Vice President. Family will receive visitors on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 at C.S. Bartholomew & Son Funeral Home, 302 Bedford Ave., Bellmore NY. A brief remembrance service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM to bid farewell to Joseph Dugan in honor of a life well lived. In lieu of flowers, donations to Good Shepherd Hospice or the American Foundation for the Blind in Joseph's memory.
