Alfredo Rivera

Obituary of Alfredo Rivera

Alfredo Rivera age eighty-six, passed away on September 21, 2020. He is predeceased by the love of his life, wife of sixty-five years, Marta Rivera. Alfredo was born, raised and educated in Puerto Rico. He served in the Army at Fort Buchanan, PR during the Korean War, earning a National Defense Service Medal. He later transferred to the Army Reserve. His military career was a source of great pride and a foundation of his patriotism. In his late twenties, Alfredo moved his young family to New York City, working hard to provide for them. He took great joy in life’s simplest things: a holiday gathering followed by a card game, exchanging jokes, a cold beer, dominoes and a little salsa dancing. A fishing trip, a beach day and flying kites. In his later years, driving out to the country with his beloved Marta was a source of pleasure and escape from life in the busy city. As we reflect on his life, we are grateful for his love and the memories of great times spent together. Alfredo is survived by his children and their spouses: Luis Rivera (Rebecca), Carlos Rivera (Migdalia), Ana Zyto (Adam), Betsie Rivera (Raymond), Arleen Selvaggi (late Vinny). He also leaves behind sisters, a brother, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alfredo will always be remembered for his kind spirit and quiet dignity.
